Dr. Shamblott received Bachelor of Sciences degrees in Marine Science and Biology from the University of Miami. He received his Ph.D. from the University of Maryland in 1995, and did his postdoctoral work at Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine, where he is currently appointed as Assistant Professor.
Dr. Shamblott has focused his research on human stem cells and cell therapies. He currently carries out research into cell therapies for type I diabetes and spinal cord injury at The International Center for Spinal Cord Injury at Hugo W. Moser Research Institute at Kennedy Krieger Institute.
Dr. Shamblott joined the Chicago Diabetes Project in 2010.
