Vladimír Raus, Ph.D., is a researcher in the Department of Controlled Polymerization Synthesis, Institute of Macromolecular Chemistry of the Czech Academy of Sciences (IMC CAS). He received his MSc. in Organic Chemistry and Ph.D. in Macromolecular Chemistry from the Masaryk University, Brno, Czechia, with the Ph.D. studies carried out in Prague at IMC CAS. Building upon previous collaboration, Dr. Raus spent a year as a postdoctoral fellow in the group of Dr. Igor Lacík at the Polymer Institute of the Slovak Academy of Sciences, Bratislava, Slovakia, working on the synthesis of polymeric materials for encapsulation of pancreatic cells. This cooperation continues until today.
Besides various topics related to dissolution and modification of cellulose and other polysaccharides, Dr. Raus is mainly involved in developing the methods of reversible-deactivation radical polymerization and utilizing them in the synthesis of diverse polymeric materials with applications ranging from drug carriers to automotive coatings. These research activities have been supported by both national (Czech Science Foundation) and international (JDRF) funding agencies and also by industrial partners.
